2024 Distinguished Nurse Researcher Award – Dr. Sally Norton, PhD, FNAP, FPCN, FAAN
Dr. Norton is currently a tenured professor at the University of Rochester Medical Center School of Nursing and School of Medicine & Dentistry. She received her BS in Nursing at the University of Iowa, a MS and PhD in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Oregon-Health & Science University. Her program of research is focused on end-of-life (EOL) decision making, palliative care (PC), communication and delivery of PC in healthcare settings. She has received numerous honors and awards as well as been a co-investigator for several prestigious research grants. Dr. Norton was inducted as a Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing by the Hospice and Palliative Nursing Association and the American Academy of Nursing in 2009 and is currently continuing her work to improve health systems capacity to care for seriously ill patients.
