Mary J. Finnin Grant for Nursing Innovation in Oncology
The Mary J. Finnin Grant for Nursing Innovation in Oncology is given annually to a qualified registered nurse who is currently pursuing or interested in pursuing nursing innovation in the field of oncology.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Licensed as a registered professional nurse in New York State;
- Reside in and/or practice professional nursing in New York State;
- Have a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing from a nursing program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

2024 Mary J. Finnin Awardee – Dr. Clare Whitney
Dr. Whitney’s project proposal being supported by the Mary J. Finnin grant is aimed at exploring the contributions of care partners, which are described as family members or friends, who provide support to person living with cancer. The three specific aims of her study are as follows:
- Characterize the self-identified care partner networks of people with cancer.
- Elicit, analyze, and illuminate textured personal experiences of cancer care partners.
- Uncover and characterize ethical or moral considerations of care partners’ experience.
